Edsel Quentin Davidson- On Sunday November 17, 2013, Edsel Quentin Davidson (Ed) passed away in Deland FL and joined with his Savior in a heavenly reunion. Ed was born in Crany WV on September 27, 1931 to Lillie Blanche Stennett and Lee Everette Davidson. His father was a combat veteran of the US Army in World War I. Ed was the fifth of eight children and was a typical boy of the depression coalfields, learning how to hunt, garden and tend tasks along with having boisterous adventures in the mountains. Ed was in the Oceana High School class of 1950, joined the US Army in 1952, and was a paratrooper in the elite 82nd Airborne Division. Ed married his boyhood sweetheart from Matney Town, Betty Sue Childress, in Reno NV on the day after Christmas 1952 following a long-distance courtship (they were both in the armed forces). They had one daughter, Teri Lynn Davidson. In Ed's 24-year army career he had two combat tours in Vietnam and other assignments in Korea (twice), Italy and Panama. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer IV. After moving with Betty to Deland FL in 1980, Ed was employed for twelve and one half years by the Florida Prison Authority and helped in modernizing their records system, winning several commendations for outstanding performance. Ed was known for his attention to detail and love of computers. His genealogy records and research are legendary. His quiet humor and sense of grace will be sorely missed by his friends and family. He grew up in and was a long-time member of Toneda Missionary Baptist Church, and at his death was a member of the Stetson Baptist Church. Predeceasing him in death were his parents, two brothers (Harold and Bill), one sister (Edna Mae) and one brother-in-law (Richard Childress). Surviving him are his devoted wife of over sixty years, Betty Sue and his loving daughter Teri, both of Deland FL. Also surviving him are sisters Mary Rose (Tom), Alice Jo (Charley), Shelby Jean (Ben) and Carol Sue (Gerry), one brother-in-law (Paul) and two sisters-in-law (Sandy and Sue) as well as many other family and friends. A memorial service to celebrate Ed's life will be held at the Orange City Hospice on Thursday November 21 at 11am. Interment of his ashes will be at the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell FL at a later date.
