Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at a 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Basil Catholic Church in Judice, for Velma Hebert Ducharme, 85, who passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Maison de Lafayette.

Entombment will be held in St. Basil Cemetery Mausoleum with her late husband, Harold James Ducharme.

Reverend Donavan Labbé, Pastor of St. Basil Catholic Church in Judice, will serve as Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Reverend Mario Romero, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette will Concelebrate the Mass. Giftbearers for the Mass will be Kyle Champagne and Lindsey Ducharme, and Lectors will be Mallory Hanley and Leah Evans. Stephanie James, Organist & Soloist, will perform, "How Great Thou Art," "Be Not Afraid," "Ave Maria," and "J'irai la voir un jour."

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra M. Ducharme Credeur and her husband Patrick Credeur of Judice, LA; her son, Gregory P. Ducharme and his wife, Nicole Simon Ducharme of Judice, LA; five grandchildren, Leah Evans, her husband Chris Evans of Judice, LA, Mallory Hanley and her husband, Zachary of Youngsville, LA, Lindsey Ducharme of Lafayette, Kyle J. Champagne and his wife, Lindsey Quinn of Broussard, LA, and Amanda Credeur and her fiancé, Clint Fremin of Scott, LA; five great grandchildren, Gavyn, Rowyn and Korbyn Evans, Jacob Champagne, and Addison Hanley; her sisters, Barbara Broussard and her husband, James of Port Arthur, TX, and Mona Stansbury Youngsville, LA; and her brother, Virgil James Hebert and Judy of Alabama.

Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold James Ducharme; her parents, Dave and Edith Guidry Hebert, and one brother, Kenneth Hebert; and one brother-in-law, Roland Stansbury.

A resident of Judice, Velma was a devout Catholic and a Parishioner of St. Basil Catholic Church in Judice. She served her Church as a Lector, and past President of the Altar Society.

Born and raised on a cotton field in Judice Louisiana. Graduated top of her class in 1955, known for her beautiful voice and even won a scholarship to college which she declined. Married her high school sweetheart Harold, had two kids Sandra and Gregory. Mrs. Velma was an active band mom at her kid's school and known as The Hot Dog Lady throughout the neighborhood. Mrs. Velma retired from Mallard Well Service but worked at Cleco in payroll for two years. In between teaching religion at St. Basil Catholic Church or helping the elderly at nursing homes through her social group Home Demonstration, the Calico Patch Homemakers. Mr. & Mrs. Ducharme spent most of their time traveling. The beautiful couple traveled the country together going to a total of 50 states. Mrs. Velma was always dressed for the occasion, and in her later years she enjoyed weekly soap operas, playing Pokeno, watching fun game shows and local news. You could still hear her beautiful singing voice on any given day.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Champagne, Chris Evans, Gavyn Evans, Keith Stansbury, Kevin Stansbury, Roland Stansbury, Jr., and Kirk Stansbury.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jacob Champagne, Darrel Broussard, Giles Broussard, Daniel Ducharme, and David Ducharme.

A Rosary will be recited on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 10:30 AM in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE Location led by Denise Hebert.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 9:00 AM until time of services.
