The memorial Mass for Cecilia Sommars of Wadena, will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, at St. Fredericks Catholic Church in Verndale with Father Lauren Germann as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of Mass.
Cecilia, age 93, passed away on June 15, 2017, at the Fair Oaks Lodge, Wadena, MN.
Cecilia “Ceil” Leona Boyer was born to Hugo and Mary (Ludovissie) Boyer on January 29, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN. She was united in marriage with Robert “Bob” Louis Sommars on September 20, 1943 at the Catholic Parish House in Verndale. They farmed in rural Verndale for over 37 years until moving into Verndale in 1989, and in 2011 to Humphrey Manor in Wadena. Her days as a homemaker were filled with caring for her family, flower gardening and reading. Ceil was a member of the Garden Club, Christian Mothers, and the Happy Losers diet group. She also volunteered her time as a 4-H leader. Community members will remember Ceil as the Executive Director and manager of Humphrey Manor in Wadena from 1966 -1972.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her husband Robert on July 4, 2012; parents Hugo and Mary; brothers Mike, Frank and and Henry Boyer; sisters Marcella Brochpahler, MaryAnne Houston; Donna Montaban, Bernice Pope, Lorraine Maher, JoAnne Boyer and Shirley Loberg; and great-granddaughter Annabelle Langer.
She will be forever missed by her son Michael (Lynn Swenson) Sommars of Cave Creek, AZ and daughters Kathleen (Nolan) Hanson of Naches, WA and Junnell Lonergan of St. Paul, MN; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister Doris Rameriz; along with a host of friends.
Urnbearer will be Jim Langer. Honorary urnbearers will be Cecilia’s grandchildren.
Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Verndale, MN.
Memorials may be directed to St Frederick’s and St. Ann’s Catholic Churches, the American Cancer Society and the Wadena Library.
