Mrs. Betty Charlotta Carmichael, 77, of Frederick, died Sunday, Jan. 16, at Glade Valley Nursing Home, Walkersville.
She was the wife of Warren C. Carmichael, who died in 1972.
Born Nov. 20, 1922, in Zella, Wash., she was the daughter of the late August H. and Elsie Jaeger Klein, and she grew up in Portland, Ore.
Her husband worked for the Bureau of Prisons, so her family lived in several areas during his career, starting at McNiel Island, Wash., Safford, Ariz., Murfreesboro, Tenn., Danbury, Conn., and Latuna, Texas. Mrs. Carmichael was employed as a bookkeeper in Portland, Ore., prior to retiring.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Carmichael and wife Lucy of Frederick; a daughter, Toni Carmichael and husband Gary Larson, creator of the "Far Side" cartoons, of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Kim Kreps and Kelly Carmichael both of Frederick; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Marie Kreps and Taylor Lea Kreps both of Frederick; one brother, Arthur H. Klein and wife Emma of Milwaukie, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Carmichael is at the Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick, where friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Private funeral services will be held at the funeral home with the Rev. Burnis D. Barrett officiating. Mrs. Carmichael will then be removed to the Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 4101 N.W. Skyline Blvd., Portland, Ore., where services and interment will be held at a later date.
The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mrs. Carmichael to the American Lung Association of Maryland, Inc., 1840 York Road, Suite M, Timonium, Md. 21093.
