On January 20, 1881 he married Mary E Bice, age 19, born in Clyde County, Ohio. She was living in Ludington, Michigan at the time of their marriage and he was living in Chase, Michigan.
The 1900 Census shows that John and Mary are living in Traverse City, Michigan and he was a traveling salesman.
The 1910 Census shows that they are living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His occupation is listed as a common traveler selling tea and spices. Helen Bice, age 71, is also living with them.
November 1883, sister Maude (1883-1957) was born in Lake County, Michigan. She married Ernest Baxter in 1908 in Grand Haven, Michigan and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
