Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Reiste Funeral home for Mrs. George Salzkorn, who died at the Ward hospital at Primghar Thursday morning following a long illness. Rev. H. G. Dawes, pastor of the local Methodist church was In charge. Pall bearers were Russel Brown, Allen Ramsey, Claude Cain, T. H. McCulla, Roy Negus and Elmer King. Interment was in Waterman cemetery.

1871—Mary E. Salzkorn—1944
Mary Elizabeth Olhausen, the only daughter of Fred and Sarah Olhausen, was born October 18, 1871 at Freeport, Ill., and in early infancy was baptized in the Lutheran faith.

With her parents she came to Iowa 70 years ago and has resided in this community most of her life, with the exception of short periods of time spent in Sac county, near Marcus, Iowa, and at Luverne, Minn. Most of her girlhood, however, was spent near Larrabee, Iowa.

In the fall of 1891 she was united in marriage to George Salzkorn at Luverne, Minn., where they both resided at that time. They returned to Iowa and located on a farm near Sutherland where a family of three boys and four girls grew to manhood and womanhood. Mr. and Mrs. Salzkorn celebrated their golden wedding anniversary only a few years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Salzkorn have enjoyed a longer period of friendship and companionship than most folks are privileged. The Olhausen and Salzkorn families were close neighbors and friends in Freeport before coming to Iowa, where they settled on neighboring farms in Spring township. Mr. Salzkorn and Fred Olhausen farmed together near Luverne, Minn., Just prior to 1891.

Mrs. Salzkorn has been in very poor health for several years and the courageous fortitude with which she bore her long period of suffering will ever be remembered by all who knew her. Thursday morning, January 20th of this year, God deemed it wise to call her in death after she had reached the age of 72 years, three months and two days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband George, seven children; Myrtle (Mrs. Glen Joines) Sutherland, (Laura) Mrs. Rayond Shouse) Hartley, Jessie (Mrs. Fred Plagman) Spencer, LeRoy of Sutherland, Oliver of Linn Grove, Verla (Mrs. M. D. Shouse) Sutherland, Gaylord of Sutherland; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one brother, Sam Olhausen of Sutherland.

Two brothers, Charles and William, preceded her in death.
