Eithel Elizabeth (Hickman) Shelton of Niland, Calif., was born in Burlington, Wash., on March 2, 1920, to Hez and Jessie Hickman.

After 97 years and 5 months, Eithel went to be with the Lord on Aug. 2, 2017, at the home of her daughter in Barstow, Calif.

Earnest and Eithel were married Aug. 3, 1938, in Colfax. The couple were farmers in the Farmington and Garfield areas during the '40s. They spent most of their early years together living in Farmington, where Eithel worked at the post office and then pursued a career as a beautician. She and Earnest played in their own band, her on the piano and Earnest on the drums, spending many a night playing for various events and dances. In reality, music was not so much what she did, as it was who she was. From the ukulele to the violin to the keyboard, music coursed through her veins.

After relocating in Lewiston in the early '60s, Eithel opened her own beauty shop in her home. When Earnie retired, they moved to St. Maries; however, after traveling to Southern California for a vacation, they found their final home at Bashford's Mineral Spa in Niland, Calif. She once said that if she had a million dollars, she still wouldn't want to live any other place. Many hours of enjoyment were spent in the comfort of her living room playing her music as well as for church, Saturday night dances and jam sessions with her friends over the many years. Eithel's other loves, in addition to her family, were playing cards and watching TV. She was blessed daily by the love and friendships shared with her Niland family.

Eithel, affectionately known as "The Duchess" at the spa, will be remembered for her contagious smile, kindness towards others, love of card playing and gift of music. She joins Earnest at the peaceful Mountain View Cemetery in Farmington, Wash.

Survivorws names omitted per findagrave policy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Shelton; two brothers, Arlie and Everett Hickman; and one sister, Glatha Torpey.
