Geraldine L. "Jerry" Abel, 94, died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Harry E. Abel, Jr.
Born November 8, 1922 in York, a daughter of the late William H. and Lillie M. (Wallick) Kindig.
She retired from Orinoka Mills, where she worked as a cloth examiner, and had also worked for Tioga Mills. Mrs. Abel was a member of Pleasureville United Methodist Church, the White Rose Chapter 360 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Mount Wolf Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2493 Ladies Auxilary.
Mrs. Abel is survived by two daughters, Sandra L. Achaj and her companion, Keith Kottcamp of Mount Wolf, and Colleen R. Hornberger and her companion, David Miller of Manchester; three granddaughters, Jessica Aisquith and her husband, Eric, Jolynn Runkle and her husband, Travis, and Alexis Hornberger and her companion, Brad Bankos; and a great-grandson, Cooper Bankos.
She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Garnett Achaj; and a brother, Raymond Kindig.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Pleasureville United Methodist Church, 2606 N. Sherman St., York, with her Pastor, The Rev. Frank Miller, officiating. Viewing will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Workinger Semmel Funeral Homes and Cremation, 849 E. Market St., York, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasureville United Methodist Church, 2606 N. Sherman Street, York, PA 17406 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
