Penny Bass was the second daughter of Robert Wilton "Bob" Bass and Joann Sheppard Bass. Her older sister was Portia Bass and her younger sister was Pam Bass. After graduating from Dekalb, Texas High School in 1964, she enrolled in East Texas State College in Commerce. She transferred to North Texas State in Denton earning a masters degree from there. Penny taught high school in the Dallas, Texas School system to minority students. In 1973, she went to work for United Airlines as a flight attendant. Penny met her husband Alvin Martin on a flight from Chicago to Seattle in 1977. They were blessed with 29 years together. In time, she advanced to being a inflight supervisor ending her career after 31 years when she became sick with lung cancer. A memorial service was held on Tuesday ,27 June 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Butterworth Arthur Wright Chapel, Seattle, Washington
