Eugene W. Mears Dies; Retired Post Printer
Funeral services for Eugene W. Mears, a Post Dispatch printer for 34 years, will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Hoffmeister undertaker establishment, 6454 Chippewa Street. Interment will be in New Picker Cemetery, 7133 Gravois Avenue [Later New Picker Cemetery renamed to Saint Louis Memorial Gardens then renamed to Gatewood Gardens.] Mr. Mears died of a heart ailment Tuesday at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. He was 82 years old and lived in Shrewsbury. Mr. Mears, who retired in 1959, was a former foreman of the newspaper’s job printing division. He was a former president of the Mallet and Planer Association, an organization of retired Post-Dispatch composing room employers. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jean Yemm, Mrs. Kathleen Nichols and Mrs. Marian Mepham, all of the St. Louis area, and two sons, Walter G. Mears of St. Louis and John D. Mears, Hamilton, Mass.
