Julia Isabelle Raleigh, age 88, of Quincy, IL passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Sunset Home in Quincy, IL.

She was born April 16, 1929 in St. Patrick, MO the daughter of Eugene and Josephine Markus Raleigh.

She went to school in St. Patrick and never married. She spent her life caring for the sick as a Registered Nurse. She was the director of patient care on the 3400 medical care unit, retired April 30, 1987 after 25 years of service at Blessing Hospital.

Miss Raleigh supervised about 50 nursing staff employees on the unit, which mainly cares for urology, general surgery, psychiatric and cataract patients.

A graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Burlington, IA, she joined the Blessing staff as a part-time staff nurse in 1960 and went to full time status in 1962. Miss Raleigh accepted the position of head nurse on the third floor East and West in 1966. With the opening of the 1970 building, she became director of patient care on the 5400 medical surgical care unit for three years. In 1973 she switched to 3400 where she remained for 13 years, until her retirement.

Miss Raleigh was an avid hunter, and spent her free time fishing, hunting and traveling.

Survivors include three sisters, Margie Long of DeSoto, MO and Lucille Lippa of Quincy and Donna Berhorst of Canton, MO and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, George Raleigh and sister Mary Allison.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Patrick, MO with Fr. Christopher Aubuchon officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, September 8, 2017 from 4 until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. in the Davis Funeral Home in Canton.

The family suggests memorials be made for Masses or to the American Heart Association.
