Husband to Hattie Himebaugh and father to Harriet Himebaugh Brinkley. John Himebaugh was originally from Ohio and came out west after fighting for the Union as a cavalry trooper. He was married to Hattie Spaulding in 1878 and they eventually had three daughters. Hattie died due to complications from giving birth to Harriet, my grandmother,in 1887. Mr. Himebaugh owned and operated two very successful hotels in Colorado Springs, the Spaulding House and the Himebaugh Place. The Spaulding house was located on south Tejon St. The Himebaugh Place was on the corner of Tejon and Cucharras St., across from what is now the Pioneers Museum. He also eventually had a ten thousand acre cattle ranch and mining interest throughout the state, the most successful being the Vulcan Mine in Gunnison County.(contributed by Richard Wilson, great grandson)
