Death has once more entered the vicinity, this time taking from our midst one of the best and most highly respected citizens of the entire community. George R Borah, son of Rev. Valentine and Elizabeth Borah, was born Oct. 8, 1856 on the old home farm near Mt. Ida, WI where he spent his entire life (aside from short vacations and visits) up to the time of his last sickness only four weeks before his death. On Sunday Aug. 29, 1920 he was taken suddenly ill and it was found necessary to have an operation so on the following Tuesday Aug. 31, he was taken to Lancaster where he underwent a very serious operation that same evening (appendicitis). He stood the ordeal well and seemed to be getting along nicely until on Sunday eve, Sept. 26, when he began to get worse and on Tuesday morning, Sept. 28, in spite of all that loving hands, kind hearts and the best of medical aid could do he passed into the hands of his Maker at the Godfrey hospital at Lancaster at the age of 63 years, 11 months and 19 days. George was of a very quiet but noble, kind and loving disposition. Truly we can say he was loved by all who knew him, far and wide, both old and young and was known by all as to his honesty, integrity and uprightness of character. He was married on Oct. 8, 1877 to Miss Alice Chervet. About 1880 he was baptized in the Christian faith by immersion and has always lived a good Christian life up to the hour of his death and repeated verses of scripture and songs of perfect peace amid all his sufferings even in the last hours and up to the very end, trusting in his Savior. He was so gentle and patient through all his whole life. He was never known to murmur or complain. Besides his sorrowing wife he leaves to mourn his untimely demise one half-brother, John W Martin and two half-sisters, Mrs A Trapp of Fennimore and Mrs. L.(Cynthia) Carnahan of Long Island Kansas, besides many other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother Harvey J. Borah in 1908 and a half brother John P. Borah in 1853. The funeral was at the Mt. Ida Baptist Church on Friday morning at eleven O'clock was largely attended. He was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery by the side of loved ones gone before. Rev. J. A. Vincent of Darlington, one of his former pastors and dear friend of the deceased, preached a beautiful and impressive sermon from Rev. 14-13:
