The son of Rev William, Duff, minister of Grange in Banffshire (now Moray), Andrew Halliday was a Scottish journlalist, essayist and dramatist, and a founder member and President of the gentleman's club, The Savage Club, in 1857.
As a profuse author, he wrote using the name "Andrew Halliday". He died in London and was buried in Highgate Cemetery on 14 April.
Brother of William Latimer Duff, Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General.
