James F Forman was the son of William Forman and Nancy in Bourbon county Kentucky ,Jame,s grandfather was a Methodist preacher near the town of Paris Kentucky .James moved to Doniphan Kansas in 1848.James and his two brothers John and Harvey Forman were surveyor,s and business men who developed and platted several towns in the Doniphan area , All three brothers were active in establishing the town of Troy,, Doniphan and Iowa point Kansas , James Forman was commissioned by the government as an indian trader before he turned his attention to development. James had a Ferry boat at Iowa point called the Hesparien that sunk on the Missouri river 1858 he also owned the Lumber mill hotel and general store in Iowa point , the town of Iowa point burned down in 1858 and never recovered , James Forman was the justice of the peace for 6 years and along with his two brothers John and Harvey he was active in politics and was part of the Kansas bogus legislature together they had three children Lida ,Fannie who married RPR Miller of Lincoln Nebraska ,James had . James married Martha Pemberton in 1848 Monticello Missouri ,Martha died in 1862 , James went to the Montana territory for four years and returned to Doniphan to marrie Ruby Soule of new York , James spent his remaining years in the Doniphan area and the history of Doniphan county Kansas can no be written with out mentioning James F Forman;
Troy kansas a meeting, October 16, 1855, the County Commissioners ordered James F. Forman to lay off eighty acres of said quarter section into town lots, and make a draft there of said town.
