AWSUMB, Kenneth Paul, 91, of Bemidji, Minnesota passed away Sunday May 16, 2010 at Hospice of Dayton. Ken was born on July 3, 1918 in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late Ardin I. and Petra Johnson Awsumb. After graduating from St. Paul Central High School in 1936, he was employed as timekeeper for the Union Stockyards in South St. Paul. From 1942 thru 1945 he served in the U.S. Army, 87th Battalion in the Aleutians and Alaska Territory. He returned from the war and entered Macalaster College in St. Paul, graduating magna cum laude in Economics, in 1949, and received his MBA in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota in 1950. Ken met the love of his life, Lois Critchfield, while in college, and for 61 years shared love and laughter with their two daughters, Barbara and Husband John Birk; Sue and Husband Terry Awsumb-Conn; sons Bill; Dan and Rose; and Jim and wife Cindy. Ken is grampa to Sara Sweat, Matt Combs and Mike Birk. He is Gee - Paw and an inspiration and life teacher to Katie, Miranda, Stella Keysha, Maddie, and Vanessa. Ken worked for the Mead Corporation from 1963 until retiring in 1984 and forming his own consulting service. He was well known for his calligraphy and handmade greeting cards. Ken loved to jog, finishing several 10K races. In addition, he donated thousands of hours volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, The Bemidji Area Library, North Country Regional Hospital, The United Way, Big Brothers/Sisters, and many other worthy organizations. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Forsberg (Bill), and brothers Ardin (Jan), Roger and Jimmy. We will all miss Ken and remember him forever. Visitation will be Thurs. May 20, 2010 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday May 21, 7:00 PM. at Central Presbyterian Church, 4699 Lamme Road, West Carrollton. In lieu of flowers, please support Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilimington Pike, Dayton OH 45420, Habitat for Humanity, 1041 S. Patterson Blvd, Dayton OH 45402 or a charity of your choice in Ken's memory.
