A story from his granddaughter, Carrie Sillix, has Jacob searching for many years for a man that wronged one of his daughters. That is very probably his daughter Lucy.
Jacob was a farmer in his younger life but by mid-life he was a carpenter and wagon maker.
In 1885 according to the Kansas census records, Jacob is living in Ottawa, Kansas with his brother Martin and lists himself as widowed. But Mary is not dead, she is living in Topeka, Kansas.
In 1900 Jacob is living with his son, Edward, in Topeka, Kansas. Edward and his family, including his father, then moved to Cado County, Oklahoma.
In 1910 Jacob was 77 years old and living in the poor house in Cado County, Oklahoma.
I can find no record of Jacob's death or burial. Jacob possibly died in Oklahoma. Others place his death in Havensville, Kansas but have not provided anything to support that.
