HERMON - Alton F. Herbest Sr., 79, died Oct. 26, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 5, 1933, the son of Arthur and Gladys (Hooper) Herbest.
Alton graduated from Milo High School, then joined the U.S. Navy where he served faithfully for four years and then in the U.S. Air Force for a total of 29 years of serving his country. He and Elizabeth Dickinson were married in 1954 and they celebrated almost 58 happy years. They had three much loved children.
Alton leaves behind his wife, Betty of Hermon; son, Bruce and wife, Gail; son, Alton "Bunker" and wife, Linda; daughter, Bobette "Baby Girl" Frappier and husband, Mike; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He will be missed terribly. Alton loved 10 pin bowling and when he retired and returned to Hermon in 1980, he was disappointed that there was not a senior league so he and his wife, Betty decided to organize one. They made many wonderful friends doing this at Family Fun Lanes.
