Helgeson, Allen E.

Allen E. Helgeson, age 69, a Manitowoc resident, died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on March 24, 1948 in Sheboygan, son of the late Walter and Marie (Tuschl) Helgeson. Allen was a graduate of Wisconsin State School for the Deaf. On May 20, 1972 he married the former Arlene Charniak at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, Pulaski. Allen retired after 30 years at Imperial Eastman. He was a Hall of Fame member of the Green Bay Deaf Club. Allen enjoyed woodworking and was a collector of clocks, trains and antiques among other things.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years: Arlene Helgeson, Manitowoc; their children: Alvin (Heather) Helgeson, DePere, Alice (Rick) Gunderson, Manitowoc, Alden (Amy) Helgeson, West Bend; five grandchildren: Cassandra & Cayla Gunderson, Tristan & Hunter Helgeson, Abigail Helgeson; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Joan (Tony) Fessler, Judy (Bill) Heinzen, Karen (Ken) Schuler, Vicki (Jim) Dworak; two sisters-in-law: LuAnn Helgeson and Audrey Blasczyk; a brother-in-law: Daniel (Ann) Charniak; and his best friends of many years: Vaughn Hallada and Jerry Effa. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Stanley & Howard Helgeson; a sister: Lorna (Robert) Hoff; a brother-in-law: Anton Blasczyk; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Edward and Florence Charniak; and good friends: Bill Reineck and Leslie Halvorsen.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Beaudry with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m Monday, September 18, 2017. Friends may also call Tuesday morning at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, Newton, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
