Mrs Phella Jones Abernathy, 99, Route 2, Centre, died Thursday at a Rome, Ga, hospital. Survivors: daughters, Mrs Emma Sue (Pig) Mobley and Mrs Gladys Hooper, Route 2, Centre. Perry Funeral Home, Centre, in charge of arrangements.

Funeral will be Saturday at 3 pm at Perry Chapel with the Revs Vance Jones and Malcolm Barrett officiating. Burial in Calcedonia Cemetery.

Other survivors: five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs Abernathy was a native of Cherokee County and a member of Calcedonia Baptist Church. The body will remain at the funeral home through the hour of service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm today. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Calcedonia Cemetery Fund.

Phella married Louis R Abernathy about 1910 in Cherokee Co AL. In that year the newlyweds were enumerated living at Spring Creek. Louis died before 1920 when the widowed Phella appears in the 1920 census with her 2 daughters, living with her parents.

According to the 1900 census, Louis was born in Oct 1883. He was the son of Moses C Abernathy & Susana.
