Kelly Dean Johnson, a lifelong resident of Charenton, passed away at the age of 53 on Saturday, September 16, 2017, in New Iberia.

He was born in Franklin on January 1, 1964, a New Year's baby, the son of Will James "Jimmy" Johnson and Bertie Mae Persilver Johnson. Kelly was a Native American of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed the simple things in life and was the type of friend who would give his very last to someone in need.

Kelly is survived by his brothers, Mark Johnson and his wife Rhonda, Michael Johnson, and Gerald Ecuer and his wife Rachel; three nephews, Brandt Johnson, Zayne Johnson and his wife Janie, and Calieb Johnson and his fiancée Ashton Verret; one niece, Ciera J. Simmons and her husband Ren; one great nephew, Bryden Johnson; and his step-mother, Dorothy B. Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertie Mae Persilver Johnson; his father, Will James "Jimmy" Johnson; his brother, Ryan Keith Johnson; his maternal grandparents, Leo Bolley Persilver and Nellie Higgins Persilver; and his paternal grandparents, Charles P. Johnson and Ernestine Darden Walls.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with evening funeral services at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Bobby Hodnett and Rev. Dr. Chris Holloway will conduct the service. Following, Kelly will be cremated and laid to rest with his mother in the Franklin Cemetery.
