Born Oct. 22, 1925, in Galesburg to E.V. and Tina Earl Hampton, he was raised by foster parents, Elmer and Mary Williams Terpening. He married Rosemary Sabol in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Judith Peck of Galesburg; two granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
A World War II Navy veteran, he served as a radio man second class.
He was a meat cutter at Hi-Lo Grocery for 46 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a former member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Watson Funeral Home, with recitation of the rosary at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Galesburg.
Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic School.
