Willard Wallace Martin, Sr., 90, of Raleigh, NC passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was born in Swain County, North Carolina to the late Willard and Sarah Martin.

Wallace served in the US Navy and attended the Naval Academy where he played football and participated on the track team. He served in the North Carolina Legislature as a representative from Swain County and then moved to Pfeiffer College where he was a professor and coached tennis and wrestling. After 20 years at Pfeiffer, Wallace moved to the coast where he served as the Town Manager for Sunset Beach, NC, and later Bald Head Island, NC. He retired to a farm in southern Virginia where he and his wife Ann enjoyed their time restoring the old farm house and tobacco barns. He also loved his dogs and his early morning rides with them around the farm.

Wallace was preceded in death by his wife Ann Bryson Martin, brother Earl Martin and sister Dorothy Williams.

He is survived by daughter Carolyn Martin of Baton Rouge, LA; sons Willard Wallace Martin, Jr. of Washington, NC and Richard E. Martin of Raleigh NC; and four grandchildren.
