In the book, "Shannon genealogy: genealogical record and memorials of one branch of the Shannon family in America", by Richard Cutts Shannon, pg 295, Shannon family #380, William married Harriet Howard. This was partially correct; for some reason Mehitable was called Hattie instead of Hittie. And her married name was Howard, her maiden name is Haines. I'm thinking she was a young widow that perhaps lost her husband in the Civil War because he just disappeared and the Civil War did do that to people.
