Producer, Director, Writer. Born George Howe Ripley to syndicated newspaper columnist Harold Austin 'Rip' Ripley (1896-1974) and actress Mabel Albertson (1901-1982). His maternal uncle was character actor Jack Albertson. Later his mother divorced, and married screenwriter Ken Englund (1914-1993), who adopted both George and sister Patricia (Patsy), as his own. Gorge Englund's early education was at Black-Foxe Military Institute. Later, as an English/Philosophy major at UCLA, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and captain of the basketball and tennis teams. At age 27, Englund married actress Cloris Leachman April 19, 1953. They had five children: Adam, Bryan, George Jr., Morgan and Dinah, before their December 29, 1978 divorce. George was then married to Bonnie Graves from 1980-1992; and had two children: Max (died 1993) and Graves. George Englund was known for such films as "The Ugly American", "The Shoes of the Fisherman", "Zachariah and Challenger". His literary works include, "The Way It's Never Been Done Before: My Friendship with Marlon Brando", and "Cloris: My Autobiography". Englund died September 14, 2017 following complications from a fall. He was 91. He was preceded in death by his beloved son actor Bryan Englund, who died in 1986. George Englund was survived by sister Patsy, his two former wives, and his surviving children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
