Jim was born on May 31, 1929, in Manitowoc County, Town of Franklin. The son of late Wencil and Theresa (Spurney) Sauer, he was raised in Franklin and graduated from East De Pere High School, class of 1947. On November 27, 1948, he married the love of his life, Adeline Foreyt, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Reedsville. Jim loved Adeline fiercely and was a devoted family man, dearly loved by his wife, his children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends.
Jim began his farming career on the Sauer farm near Menchalville before working with Norval and Jean Dvorak on their farm. Eventually he embarked upon a career as a welder and steam fitter for Manitowoc Ship Building Local #443. After that, he became a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local #400. Jim was especially proud of his involvement in the construction of the Two Creeks and Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plants prior to his retirement in 1983.
Jim was a multifaceted man with an impeccable work ethic. A natural outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing trips with his children and grandchildren, Jim also enjoyed friendly fishing competitions with his best friend and partner in life, Adeline. They both loved dancing and polka. In possession of an unbelievable memory, he was fond of reminiscing about his childhood. Never forgetting a name or a face, Jim had an uncanny ability to make new friends. He enjoyed frequent trips to Oneida for bingo with his wife and family; any card game was fair game. Jim was also a talented artist who enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful gifts for his family and friends.
Jim was a past member of St. Boniface Parish and St. Boniface Athletic Club. He was very pleased to give his children a good Catholic education. He was an assistant Boy Scout Leader with Troop # 6 at St. Boniface Parish. Jim was a current member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
