John A. Enke, 84, of Forsyth died Friday, September 22, 2017 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield. Services will be private

John Austin Enke was born Wednesday, June 28, 1933 in Mt. Vernon, MO to John and Bessie (Hunt) Enke. He attended school near Mt. Vernon. He moved to Flint, MI and worked in a gas station that his brother owned. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. After his military service, he moved to Southern Californian where he met Dottie Anderson. They were married December 30, 1958 in Pasadena, CA. They stayed in CA where he worked for the city of Bellflower. They also owned a bar. He worked in city maintenance for twenty years and retired in 1984. He and Dottie moved to MO in 1999.

John was a super friendly, compassionate, generous and loving man that enjoyed racing pigeons, bird watching, woodworking, boxing, football and golf. He was a member of the Pigeon Club, American Legion and V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie Enke of Forsyth; a son, John Allen Enke and wife, Barbara of Tullytown, PA; two daughters, Reitha Joann Hall and husband, Jaimie of Salem, OR, Carrie Watson of League City, TX; a sister, Reitha Joann Studer of IN; five grandchildren: Sean Enke, Sarah Enke, Megan Giraldo, Brandon Giraldo, Clayton Hall; two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Enke, and Kaydence Enke.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sherry Enke and many brothers and sisters.

Memorials in memory of John Enke may be made to the American Diabetes Association 245 Crystal Drive, Suite900, Arlington, VA 22202.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kissee-Schofield-Eakins Funeral Home, Forsyth.
