FRANCES NORENE (PARKS) CAVANESS was born on January 2, 1924 to Hanorah Catherine (McGraw) Parks and Floyd Allen Parks Sr. in Glendale CA.

Both her mother and father were from west Texas.
Her mother was 14 years old at her birth.

They had moved to California with the prospect of jobs.
Both Norene and her brother Floyd were born in Glendale.
After two years, her father left to find work.
The next time she saw him was 8 years later on a trip to visit
her aunt in Texas.

Norene’s maternal grandmother Grace McGraw, moved from Lubbock, TX to Glendale, CA to help out financially. Grace started a boarding house. Norene and her mother helped Grace run the boarding house until Norene married and moved out.

While working at the boarding house and going to high school, Norene was introduced to H.L. Cavaness at the local drug store by her brother. After a dating period, Norene and H.L. were married in Feb. 1943. It was her senior year and she wasn’t allowed to continue school. She had promised her mother she would graduate but didn’t have the chance. This bothered her for a major part of her life.

The next few years took Norene and H.L. from South San Francisco to Redwood City to Mountain View to Hollister CA.

Norene was a dedicated wife and mother, always supporting her husband and children any way that was necessary. She supported them through cub scouts, boy scouts, Four-H, FFA, with ranch animal work and many, many projects.

In 1985, her husband H.L. had a major stroke, after many small strokes, and was paralyzed on his right side. He also had a heart attack and the attending Dr. told the family he didn’t expect H.L. to live more than one month.

At that point, Norene took H.L. home and took care of him for another 12 years. Being confined to a wheelchair, it was a chore getting H.L. from the house to the car to the store and back home. She took him shopping, to physical therapy, health meetings and other activities. She was a committed, caring, dedicated wife.

While Norene was caring for her husband, her four sons were raising their families, getting jobs and moving residences.

Ron, her oldest, had moved to Auburn CA and encouraged Norene and H.L. to move closer to him and his family. Being the closest now, Ron was called on for support and assistance constantly for the years that followed.

Norene’s second son Jerry and his wife had taken teaching positions overseas.
Her other sons, Chuck and David, had moved out of the area.

H.L. passed away in 2000 and was buried in Auburn CA.
They were married for 57 years.

In the years that followed, Norene was able to travel across the United States on two occasions visiting extended family in many states. Her son Jerry also took her on trips to Ireland, Germany and other European countries.

In 2015, Norene was able to fulfill her promise to her mother and graduated from high school in Auburn CA at the age of ninety-one. She was also awarded the Placer County Lifetime Learner Award.

Norene entered Windchimes Care Home (Chico, CA) in December 2015 with beginning stages of dementia. She passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 23,2017.

Norene is survived by her four sons Henry (Ron) Laron Cavaness (Rocklin CA) and family, Gerald (Jerry) Cavaness (Chio CA) and family, Charles Cavaness (Gooding ID) and family and David Cavaness (Filer ID) and family. She was a mother to four, a grandmother to ten and a great-grandmother to eighteen.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Auburn Cemetery District, Auburn CA.
