Joe Capps, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, in Austin. Service is at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Survivors include his sons, Michael, Steven and Shannon of Eden; daughters Derinda Rodgers of Eden, Becky Garcia of Brownwood and Edith Stahl of Austin; and brother Frank Capps of Sunrise Beach.

Joe Capps, age 76, of Brady, Texas went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2017 in Austin. He was born August 13, 1941 in Brady to Audie Howard Capps and Thelma (Hargroves) Capps. He graduated from Brady High School. Joe married Sandy Soto on January 21, 1977 in Brady.

He was a lab tech at Oglebay Norton Industrial Sands for 32 years, retiring in 2007. He was a member of Leatherwood Memorial Chapels staff for several years after retiring. He loved the Lord and his family. He was a member of the Gateway Church in Brady.

He enjoyed fishing, reading, coin collecting, horse racing, spending time with family and friends and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He also enjoyed all sports and was a big UT and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Funeral services for Joe Capps will be held 2:30pm Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Reverend Ruede Rule officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Friends may view Joe’s Memorial Video Tribute and/or sign the online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.

Pallbearers will be Terry Lewis, Jeffery Lewis, Rodney Lewis, Joe Michael Zapata, Gabriel Rodgers, Cody Capps, Jared Capps, Collin Garcia, and Josh Soto. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Shelton and Ken Stahl.

Joe is survived by his sons Michael Capps, Steven Capps and Shannon Capps and wife Yolanda of Eden, Texas; daughters Derinda Rodgers and husband Mario of Eden, Texas, Becky Garcia of Brownwood, Texas and Edith Stahl and husband Greg of Austin, Texas; brother Frank Capps and wife Pam of Sunrise Beach, Texas; grandchildren Joe Michael Zapata, Gabriel Rodgers, Cody Capps, Monica Capps, Courtney Capps, Jared Capps, Jacob Capps, Mallory Garcia, Tristyn Garcia, Collin Garcia and Courtney Garcia and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sandy, brother Donald and sister Anice Lewis. Memorial contributions in memory of Joe Capps may be made to the Brownwood Lady Lions Basketball Program, 2100 Slayden Street, Brownwood, Texas 76801.
