Benjamin A. Bailey Sr.May 25, 1932 -- September 27, 2017 Benjamin A. Bailey Sr., 85, of Howe, died at 11:29 am on Wednesday, September 27 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He had been in declining health. He was born on May 25, 1932, in Jasper, MI, to Paul Revere and Beulah (Warner) Bailey. On July 10, 1974, in Howe, he married Carmen Arendt; she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are daughter, Tonya (Scott) Christner of Howe; four sons, Brad Bailey of Waldron, MI, Brian (Kelly) Bailey of White Pigeon, MI, David (Karena) Bailey of Mooresville, NC, Ben (Melissa) Bailey of O'Fallon, MO; 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and James Bailey; three sisters, Hazel Bishop, Eleanor Shadewald, and Pauline Feller. He was self-employed for most of his life. He was a farmer and owner/operator of a trucking company, a bowling alley, a restaurant, and a motel. He loved spending time with his family and was an outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting. Benjamin served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 6:00 pm on Saturday, September 30 and for one hour prior to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Sunday, October 1 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Harold Gingerich. There will be a brief military burial rites service following the funeral. Family and friends may gather at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury for a graveside service at 10:00 am on Monday, October 2. Memorials may be given to 4th District Homeless Veterans.
