Actress. In a career spanning seven decades, she appeared in the theater, motion pictures, and on television. Born Annie Jeffreys Carmichael, her movie career started 1942 when she appeared in nine films that year alone, including the musical “Step Lively” starring Frank Sinatra. In the 1940s she appeared in the films were “Moonlight Masquerade”, “The Old Homestead”, “X Marks the Spot”, “The Man from Thunder River”, “Overland Mail Robbery”, “Death Valley Manhunt”, “Nevada”, “Dillinger”, “Dick Tracy”, “Step by Step”, “Dick Tracy vs. Cueball”, “Trail Street” and “Return of the Bad Men”. She turned to the Broadway Theatre in 1948 with the starring roles in the musical “Kiss Me, Kate”. Between 1952 and 1955, she starred in the CBS television situation comedy series “Topper” alongside her husband, Robert Sterling. She would go on to have roles in several television series and made-for-television movies, most notably for her role as wealthy socialite ‘Amanda Barrington’ on the daytime soap opera drama “General Hospital”, a role she played from 1984 through 2004. She also appeared in its short-lived spinoff, “Port Charles”. She awarded awarded a star on Hollywood, California's Walk of Fame, located at 1501 Vine Street. Jeffreys, whose last acting credit was in a 2013 episode of “Getting On”, passed away in September 2017.
