Obituary

A rural Logansport resident who had been a paraplegic 24 years took his life Thursday. Dead of a rifle shot to the head is Kenneth Lee Martin, 26, Rt. 3, Logansport. State police said young Martin, who was confined to a wheelchair, had received treatment for despondencyand had attempted to take his life three times in the past. According to police, Martin purchased a rife Thursday, drove to a deserted Cass County road and took his own life. The inciden occurred, police said, at County Roads 1100S. and 150 E. at about 1:30 p.m. Born Jan. 15, 1949, at Logansport, he was the son of Fred W. and Martha I. Rush Martin, both of whom survive. He was a student at Indiana University at Kokomo and had attended Vincennes University and the University of Illinois. A 1967 graduate of Carroll High School, he was a member of Hopewell North Presbyterian Church at Deer Creek and the National Paraplegic Foundation. Surviving with the parents are two brothers, Craig c. of Rt. 3 Logansport, and Mark A., at home; two sisters, Mrs. Vicky L. Coppock, Muncie, and Miss Marcia Martin, at home; the paternal grandfather, Charles F. Martin, Rt. 1, Camden; and the maternal grandfather, Charles L. Rush, Rt. 3, Logansport. Services will be at 2 p.m. Caturday at Hopewell North Presbyterian Church, the Rev. David Smook officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell North Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at the Sullivan Funeral Home, Camden. Memorial contributions may be made to mental health associations.
