Civil War Union Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company D, 19th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on August 1, 1863. He served until he was discharged due to disability on a Surgeon's Certificate. He then enlisted in the 38th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on September 10, 1864, and was mustered in as a Private in Company G on September 27, 1864. He served through the end of the conflict, and was honorably discharged at the United States Army General Hospital at Fortress Monroe, Virginia on June 15, 1865.
