--Occupation: employed at Reids Grocery prior to entering the army.
--World War II Service. He entered the Army in April 1943 and was in the Infantry. He was captured while crossing the Rapido River on Jan. 23, 1944 and was sent to a POW camp. Private Carpenter & some other prisoners were being moved to a different camp when they were killed by American planes who mistook them for German soldiers. Killed in action in the service of our country.
--Private Carpenter was first buried in Belgium. His remains were finally returned to the U.S. and buried at Forest Lawn on May 20, 1949.
