Corporal Hilton Collins was one of the many victims who lost their lives when the hospital ship, Centaur, was torpedoed and sunk by a Japanese submarine off the coast of Queensland, Australia, on 14 May 1943. 


A married man with two children. He was attached to the medical corps.

He was well known in the town and district, and prior to coming to Wellington had resided in the Burrendong district for many years, and was prominent, with his brothers, in cricket, when this sport was booming here.
