George Gordon Mosley: He was born in early 1885 in Finchley (Barnet, Middlesex) in/near London, England. His parents were Isaac, an East India merchant born ca. 1851 in Radford, Nottinghamshire (d. 1931), and Sarah (nee Oakes; born ca. 1851 in Sheffield) Mosley who seem to have married in the summer of 1882 in Basford, Nottinghamshire, England, and he had been christened on 9 May 1885 in St. Mary's Church in Finchley, in the Church of England tradition. He had one known brother, Isaac Henry, b. 1883 (d. 1942), and one known sister, Dorothy Lydia, b. 1888. In 1901, he lived in Finchley, Middlesex (London), with his parents, brother Isaac Henry, 17, sister Dorothy Lydia, 13, aunt Hannah Oakes, 51, and a servant, Annie Wells, 19. His brother Isaac was in 1911 a solicitor. Mr. Mosley worked (in 1915) for the George C. Cholwell Company, tea brokers, of 126 Front Street, New York City. He had been to the USA at least once before; in March 1911 he was noted as a merchant when he came to New York, and was in transit to China. He left Liverpool, England, 20 March 1915, as a first cabin passenger on the Lusitania and was noted as an unmarried commercial traveller aged 30. He came to New York 27 March 1915 and was bound for St. Johns, New Brunswick (Newfoundland?), Canada. He was able to read and write. He stayed about two weeks in the USA before going to Canada. He then spent a few weeks in Canada before going to the USA to join the Lusitania. When he came to Michigan, USA, on 27 April 1915, he was described as a commercial traveller aged 30. He stood 6'2", had light complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. His last permanent address was said to have been Calcutta, India and his final destination was Finchley, London, England, where his father (parents) lived. Local press stated he lived at 'Newstead,' Church-end, Finchley, in 1915. He married Beatrice Elizabeth I. Macgowan (b. 1894 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire) in early 1916 in the Chelsea area of London, England. They seem to have gone to India shortly after their marriage. In April 1916 he was described as a married tea buyer living in Calcutta, India, with his wife Beatrice E. Mosley, ten years his junior. A George Gordon Mosley died 7 June 1918 in Madras (today: Chennai), India, and he may well have been the Lusitania survivor. His widow married a Mr. Stewart in the St. Giles area of London in 1930. There is a possibility she was the Beatrice Elizabeth I. Stewart who passed away in August 1988 at Bracknell, Berkshire, England. B. 31 July 1894.
