Joseph Darrell Tanner, age 80, passed away Tuesday night October 3, 2017 at his residence after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Bacon County, a member of Liberty Church of God, and retired from Hazlehurst Mills/Amoco Fabrics and Fiber. He was the son of the late Oren Alton and Nola Mae Meeks Tanner. He was also preceded in death by a brother Stevie A Tanner and three sisters Audrey Faye Tanner, Patsy Tanner, and Infant Baby Tanner.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Mary C. Davis Tanner, a son Chris Tanner, 2 grandchildren Trent and Alyssa Tanner of Hazlehurst, a brother in-law Dan L. Davis (Maureen) of Illinois, and several cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM at Liberty Church of God, with Rev. John Thomas, Rev. Mark Carver, and Rev. Leon Guess officiating. Active pallbearers include Randy and Stevie Altman, Hector Gonzalez, John Bloodworth, Wayne Kirkland, and Scott Yawn. Honorary escort are Jack and Laura Tanner, Donald and Vinnie Meeks, Bobby and Carolyn Kirkland, Pete and Verlene Johnson, Walter and Barbara Peacock, Mary Thomas, and employees of Hazlehurst Mills/Amoco Fabrics and Fiber. Internment will follow at Campground Church Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Thursday night from 6-8 PM.
