Gladys Irene Stewart McNair, age 86, of Birmingham went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, May 23, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents William Pleasant Stewart and Elizabeth Jordan Stewart Haynes; brothers Clyde Stewart, Lee Roy Stewart, Robert Stewart and David Stewart; and sisters Grace Stewart Cantrell, Viola Stewart Dobbs, and Ruth Stewart Copeland. She is survived by her daughters Cynthia McNair Burke (Ed), Vicki McNair Austin (Bobby), of Birmingham, AL, and Freda McNair Goodman (Gary) of Springdale, AR; grandchildren Sonny McCoy, Stewart McCoy of Birmingham, AL, Bethany Burke Evans (Richard) of Philadelphia, PA, Kari Goodman Castillo (Luke) of Rogers, AR, Robert Austin (Jessica), Bethanne Austin of Birmingham, AL; great-grandson Charles Swift Austin; sisters Adalene Stewart Brady (Warren) of Oxford, AL and Mary Elizabeth Barscheski of Redondo Beach, CA; brother Loyde Stewart (Teresa) of Laguna Woods, CA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Gladys graduated from Crossville High School where she was repeatedly voted "most popular". She loved her home and her family. She had a great passion for people and enjoyed serving the homebound in her church, as well as, singing in the choir. She was serious about teaching God's Word to children and did so as a 5th grade girls Sunday School teacher for many years. She was an avid gardener, artistic seamstress, excellent cook, skilled musician, and loved to laugh. She lived a full life and was dearly loved by all who knew her. Gladys worked as a secretary and stenographer for the US Secret Service and retired from the US Treasury Department. She was a former member of Adamsville Baptist, Midfield Baptist, Vinesville Baptist, First Baptist of Trussville, Central Park Baptist, and currently, Liberty Park Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Ed Burke, Bobby Austin, Gary Goodman, Sonny McCoy, Stewart McCoy, Robert Austin, and Richard Evans. The family will receive friends Thursday May 25, 2017 at Ridout's Trussville Chapel from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Liberty Park Baptist Church in Vestavia Hills at 11:00 am.
