Don was the third child born to parents Helen (Mohn) and Joseph Chesser in the family home on Old Dixie Highway in Toledo, Ohio on March 21, 1941. Don passed away on October 5, 2017 in his home while peacefully sleeping, after a courageous battle of health issues.

Don was a kind, loving, hard working family man, always putting others first and always willing to lend a helping hand in any way he could. He went into a nieghbors smoke filled bedroom with a mattress burning to save their small son. On the day of his 17th birthday, Don signed up for the Ohio Air National Guard. Sadly, he was only able to serve for a year and was medically discharged with a heart murmur. Don was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, motorcycles, and classic cars, owning several.

Don's first priority was his family. Don married the love of his life Nancy Payne on February 2, 1963. From that love, they had their only child, Kathy. Don worked for 10 years at Schmidt's Meat Processing and Packaging. He then took a job at AP Parts Mufflers and Manufacturing Plant retiring in 2000 as a millwright. Don also worked at Jeep for two years during a lengthy layoff at AP Parts. He was a member of the Toledo Ft. Industry Lodge No. 144 F. & A.M.

Don was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Chesser Brown; father, Joseph Chesser; infant sister, Patricia; and infant great-grandson, Landon. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy of 54 years; daughter, Kathy (Doug) Sams; granddaughter, Nancy Anne Sams; great-granddaughter, Leslee Anne Sams Shively; brothers, Ronald Chesser, Gerald (Therese) Brown; special sister-in-law, Margaret Sue Krzeminski; brother-in-law, Melvin Wineinger; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family would like to thank Dad's hospice nurse, Tracy, for the wonderful care she provided.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 2-8:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 11:00am in the funeral home on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 with funeral services to follow at 1 p.m.. Todd Ogle will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd. Perrysburg, OH 43551 or a charity of the donor's choice.
