Billy Gene Apple, 83, of Greensboro, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 6, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, with Pastor Michael Owens officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the Mausoleum at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 10:00 until 11:00 am at the funeral home. Billy was born in Forsyth County on October 8, 1933 to the late William and Jill Apple and was a member of Gate City Baptist Church. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service, then worked for Chemical Leaman Trucking Company as a terminal manager for 20 years, and finally retired from Commercial Courier after 15 years of employment with them. Billy was a past patron of the Masonic and Eastern Star #141. He was an avid gardener who especially loved flowers. Billy spent many enjoyable hours in the shop with Ben and Clyde and was well known for his woodworking skills. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of almost 60 years, Virginia Dare Apple of the home; devoted brother, James Apple of Kernersville, always by his side; sisters, Paige Norman of Colfax and Betty Nelson of Kernersville; several nieces and nephews, including Sharon Wilmoth and husband Kent of High Point and Kenneth Eaton of Greensboro; and other extended family. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
