Lieutenant Carlon J. "Cubby" Cubbedge, United States Navy Retired, died Friday, October 6, 2017 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. He was 58.

Born in Portsmouth, NH, he grew up travelling all over the world. He went on to enlist in the US Navy and continued to move with his wife and daughters before settling in Ocean County in 1999. While travelling the world as a military brat, he graduated from Frankfurt American High School in Germany in 1977. An excellent athlete, Cubby was a part of the school's soccer team and went on to be inducted into the high school's hall of fame.

Cubby made many important contributions to his family, friends, and country. He served our country in the US Navy as a Weapons Officer from 1978-1999 and retired as a Lieutenant. During his service, he spent time on submarines and aircraft carriers, specifically the USS Spadefish, USS KittyHawk, and the USS John F. Kennedy.

In addition to being a proud military retiree, his passion over the last 20 years was in the sport of discgolf. Day or night, rain or shine, he spent hours at a time on the many courses he enjoyed. He even went on to design courses, including the course at Ocean County Park, and play in hundreds of tournaments. In his discgolf career, Cubby threw a total of 562 aces, throwing his last ace on April 17, 2017. Eventually, he became a commentator in Discgolf Monthly.

Carlon was predeceased by his parents, Norma and Carlon Eugene Cubbedge; and his grandparents, Ramona and Angel Vales, and Carlon Van Cubbedge and Anne Cubbedge.

Surviving is his loving wife of 37 years, Nancy; 3 daughters: Jennifer, Jessica Alongi and her husband Michael, and Jacqueline; 3 grandchildren: Austin, Cecilia, and Michael, Jr; his brother: Mark and his wife Lisa and their children, Mark Cubbedge, Timothy Cubbedge and David Cubbedge and his wife Brittany; a sister: Linda and her daughter, Daniella; a brother, Matthew; and many other extended family members and friends.

Cubby was a true family man and would do anything for those he loved. With his infectious smile and happy attitude, he touched the lives of everyone he met. His spirit will live on through the people who loved him so much, specifically through his mottos: "Be happy, just be happy" and "There's no reason you shouldn't be blissfully happy every moment of your life."
