Philip M. Flammer received his B.S. in History and German from Utah State University, his M.A. in European History from George Washington University, and his Ph.D. in military history from Yale University. He served as an Officer in the United States Air Force and his assignments included professor of history from 1958 for at least nine years at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He wrote articles published in Airpower Historian, Military Review and the Air University Review. He co-authored a booklet published by Rand McNally, and he is the author of the book "The Vivid Air: The Lafayette Escadrille." He later became a professor of history at Brigham Young University.
