OBITUARY - Salina Journal - Salina, KS - Sunday, 20 November 1955
BARNARD--William Christopher Adams, long time resident here, died Friday on the eve of a celebration of his 60th wedding anniversary. He and Mrs. Adams were to have held open house Sunday. A family dinner for their 14 sons and daughters was scheduled for Monday. All of them except three daughters live within 10 miles if the Adams home 3 1/2 miles northwest of Barnard. The Adamses were married in Cleveland, Ga. Nov. 21, 1895, and spend the first 14 years of their married life there. In January, 1909, they came to Kansas, arrived in Lincoln in the midst of a blizzard. They went to the home of his brother, Al Adams, who lived six miles northeast of Lincoln, and stayed
there a month until they acquired the George Bird farm in what is now the Olivet community. They moved to Mitchell county in 1912 and for several years worked at the old Coursen ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Adams had 17 children. A son, Elmer, drowned when he was 14 months old; Mary, 3, died of an accidental poisoning and Wilma died after an operation. The surviving 14 sons and daughters are Herman, Clinton, Kater, Walter, Dewey, Mrs. J. C. Murray, Mrs. Frank Dowlin, Mrs. Robert Blanding and Don Loy, all of near Barnard; Mrs. Ted Nees, Phoenix, AZ.; Mrs. Fred Michaelis, Hill City, and Mrs. Henry McDonald, Canon City, CO. There are 35 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mrs. F. C. Bross,, 1623 Redwood Drive, Salina is a granddaughter. Mr. Adams was a member of the Barnard Baptist Church, the IOOF and Masonic lodges. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Barnard. The Rev. John Reynolds assisted by the Rev. Roy Hendrickson will officiate. Burial will be at the Union Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home in Lincoln.
