The Medical Examiner's office has ruled as accidental the death of a 24-year old woman whose body was found Saturday in Cascadilla Gorge near the Stewart Avenue bridge.

Dr. Manuel Posso, assistant medical examiner, said today that Mary Lynn Abbattista of 100 W. Seneca St. died of head injuries and drowning. Her body was discovered in Cascadilla Creek about 7:30 a.m. Saturday by a passer-by, Ithaca police said.

There were no witnesses to the fall. Posso said apparently the victim had been Walking along the side of the gorge before her death. Ithaca police and firefighters pulled the body from the creek.

Born in Syracuse, Miss Abbattista was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School, and a member of the class of 1968 of Ithaca High School, where she was a member of band. She had attended Tompkins Cortland Community College and the University of Buffalo.

She Worked as a dietary aide at the Reconstruction Home. In addition to her parents, she is Survived by two brothers, David M. of Australia, and Lonnie of Ithaca, two sisters, Jane and Carol Abbattista, both of Ithaca; her maternal grandfather, John Zielinski of Utica.
