Helene was born in 1925 the youngest of 3 children. She married Roger Baert, the love of her life, in 1947, they had 4 children together. Roger died fairly young and Helene never stopped missing him. Her own health was poor and she never thought she would outlive her sister. She died at home with her girls around her.
To me she was a fairy god-aunt! Whenever our families got together I knew I would be spoilt, not with gifts but so much love and attention, though her Christmas parcel which we were allowed to open on 5th December was always eagerly anticipated, full of sweet treats we didn't have in UK.
For many years I've made my monthly phone call to Aunty and though sometimes the language barrier was hard we always managed to understand each other and usually had a laugh
I will miss her forever
