Marita L. Groezinger, Age 88, of Shannon, previously of Elizabeth, Illinois, passed away Monday, February 26, 2007 in FHN Memorial Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2007 at Derinda Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Elizabeth with Reverend Diane Jochum and Reverend Kurt Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Derinda Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Elizabeth. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Law- Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth.

Marita was born May 14, 1918 the daughter of Elmer "Buck" and Magdalene "Lena" (Knobbe) Buman in Galena, Illinois. Marita's life was forever changed when this small town girl married LeVerle W. Groezinger on January 23, 1944 and together they made their home on the Groezinger family farm near Derinda Center. It was there they raised their five children. LeVerle died November 29, 1984.

Marita's life was very busy raising five children on the farm, preparing meals, washing with the old wringer-washer and keeping five busy kids clean. Somehow she managed to do that and still always had time to play jump-rope, hopscotch and all kinds of out-door and indoor games with her children. She loved to have fun.

Her only vacation from her busy family in those days was to grocery shop alone and to return with a bag of penny candy for each of her children. Life was grand on the farm.
When most of her children were gone from home, she began working at Eaton Corp in Hanover, IL where she was a screw-driver operator making wash machine valves, working until she retired. She was well liked by everyone there because she was so much fun.

In 2000 she moved from her life-long home in Derinda to Shannon, IL. The first couple of years the transition was hard for her, but she settled in and it became home for her. For those who knew her, she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children Bonita (Brian) Kloepping and Kenneth (Jeanne) Groezinger of Shannon, Kathryn Groezinger of Mt. Carroll, Lew Groezinger of Elizabeth and daughter-in-law Judy Groezinger of Elizabeth, CO.; nine grandchildren Craig (Kristin) Kloepping, Angie (Jeff) Norton, Rich (Amy) Groezinger, Corey (April) Schumacher, Tonya (Brian) Heldt, Nathan Groezinger, Jake Groezinger, April Groezinger and Brady Groezinger and eleven great-grandchildren.

Marita was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Jack Buman and his wife Mary (Brietbach) and Alfred Buman. A son, Mark Groezinger; two grandsons, Nathan & Steven Kloepping; one great-grandson, Cole Spoerl; nephew, Dick Buman and niece Mary Ann (Buman) Griebe.
