(1928 - 2010)

Lawrence J. "Larry" Dietrich, Sr., age 81, a longtime Reedsville resident, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, May 14, 2010, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Larry was born on September 6, 1928, in the town of Cato to the late Arthur and Clara (Bogenschutz) Dietrich. He entered the U.S. Army in 1950 and served with the 793rd Field Artillery Battalion A Battery while in Ansbach, Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1952. On April 8, 1953, he married Joan Sheahan at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Maple Grove. Together, the couple farmed in the town of Maple Grove until moving to Reedsville in 1962. Larry then worked as a sheet metal worker with August Winter & Sons of Appleton for 26 years and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union No. 18. On the day of Larry's retirement, he smashed his watch in a press and stated, "There is no need to watch a clock anymore." Larry and Joan enjoyed traveling, (all States but Alaska), he enjoyed camping with family and friends, woodworking, and deer hunting for over 50 years in a tent with his dad, brothers and friends. He loved the summer time, being out in nature, caring for his yard, and riding his John Deere tractor; and was an all-around hard worker.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Pam Dietrich and Larry and Ellen Dietrich, all of Reedsville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Balte of Manitowoc, Patti and Greg Olejniczak, Greenleaf, and Karen and Tom amann, Neenah; 13 grandchildren, Jessie (Jim) Dushek, John Balte, Gregg (Kelly) Dietrich, Tracey (Ryan) Schmidt, Mike Olejniczak, Charity (Jon) Boylan, Luke Olejniczak, Angie Dietrich and special riend, Ben Kalista, Ashley (Matt) Mraz, Brady Dietrich, and Andy, Nick and Katie Camann; seven great-grandchildren: Ethan, Jayden and Malayna Dietrich, Damon and Weston Schmidt, Lily Dietrich, nd Makalynn Mraz. He is further survived by four brothers and one sister: Jerry (Delores) Dietrich, Clarks Mills, JoAnn Eiles, Maple Grove, Art (Betty) Dietrich, Whitelaw, Leo (Claire) Dietrich, Whitelaw, John (Judy) Dietrich, Cato; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Al Hoffman, Kelly Lake, Mary Rose Speilman, California, James Sheahan, Manitowoc, John (Jeanette) Sheahan, Cato, Donald (Joyce) Sheahan, Grimms, Anita (Norm) Paulus, LaCrosse, and Karen (Sebastian) Schuh, Clarks Mills; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susie; three sisters, Baby Lois Ann, Sister Lois Ann, and Dorothy Hoffman; two brothers, Robert Dietrich and Charles Dietrich; a sister-in-law and brother in-law, Florence Dietrich and LeRoy Eiles; and several other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be a nephew, the Rev. Bill Hoffman, with burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Reedsville.

Friends may call at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills, from 4 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m., led by Deacon Tom Koch. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m.Wednesday morning at the church until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry's name can be made to the donor's choice.
