(1941 - 1996)

Eugene L. "Yatch" Kalista, age 55, of 2122 S. 18th St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday, December 4, 1996, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 1996, at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Roman Zbieranski O.F.M., with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.

Eugene was born June 8, 1941, in Manitowoc, son of Mabel Kustka Kalista and the late Edward Kalista. He attended Manitowoc Public Schools. Eugene was employed with Alvin Adelman and Son for many years. In more recent years he was employed as a saw operator for Valders Stone and Marble Company in Valders until the present time. He married Darlene R. Wachowski November 14, 1959, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Eugene was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Men's Club of St. Mary's. He was a member and Captain of the Hilltopper's Dartball Team. Eugene also belonged to the Manitowoc Eagles Aeries #706. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Darlene, playing sheepshead with family and friends and playing with his grandchildren Eugene had a great interest in cooking and trying new recipes. In the summer months he enjoyed gardening around their home.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; six children, Mary Lynn Wadman, Manitowoc, Vickie Kalista, Manitowoc, Kathy (Steve) Sadowski, Manitowoc, Jeffrey Kalista, Manitowoc, Julie (Mark) Schleis, Manitowoc, William Kalista, Two Rivers; five grandchildren, Alyssa Wadman, Justin and Miranda Sadowski, Derek Schleis, Tiana Lynn Kalista; his mother, Mrs. Mabel Kalista, Manitowoc; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin "Moose" and Kay Kalista, Manitowoc, Donald and Tammy Kalista, Manitowoc; a sister-in-law, Carol Kalista, Orlando, Fla.; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends surviving. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward, an infant son, a brother, Earl.

Friends may all at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4-8 p.m. Friday. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. led by Deacon Robert Drobka.

A very special thank you to the staff at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center Hospital Oncology Unit and also Dr. Edward J. Barylak and the staff at the Manitowoc Clinic for the special care given to Eugene and his family during his illness.
