Boyd grew up on the family farm. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp as a flagman.
Boyd worked in the roofing business and many years for the State of California as a consultant for the Division of Apprenticeship Standards. He married Gene (Genevieve) Ludde on March 9, 1984 in Babylon, New York.
Boyd is survived by his wife, Gene. Also surviving are three children from a previous marriage, Dorothy, Charles and Jim; ten grandchildren, Charles Robert, Ryan, Christopher, Stephanie, Victor, Michael, Michele, Samantha, Tina and Candace.
He is preceded in death by his son, Donald, and parents.
