Anne Leslie Giles Kimbrough, a proud Dallas native, born September 11, 1925, died October 11, 2017. Growing up in Highland Park, she attended The Hockaday School and graduated from SMU in 1946. She subsequently studied at the Art Students League of New York. Her heart remained in Dallas, however, and upon returning she taught art at Bradfield Elementary. She married the love of her life, Arch P. Kimbrough on November 23, 1952. In 1956, she and Arch moved into their house where she lived 61 happy years until her passing. Art, education and singing were an important part of her everyday life. She believed in the Dallas Public Library, historic preservation, young artists at the Dallas Museum of Art and Planned Parenthood. She treasured her friends and her clubs - Lida Spragins book club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, and the Dallas Woman's Club. She was renowned for her depth of knowledge in genealogy and family lore. Anne was predeceased by Arch, her parents Robert and Freda Giles, her siblings Bob Giles, Frederica Reily and Marie Baldwin. And most recently by her beloved cocker spaniel, Chauncey. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Lucy Kimbrough, Leslie (Bill) Sholten and Elizabeth Kimbrough. She leaves grandchildren Katherine (Jeff) Powell, Joanna (Will) Wallander, Bill Sholten, Heather McDonald, Beth McDonald, Michelle McDonald and Madeline McDonald. She was 'Grammy the Great' to Genevieve, Anne, Clara Wallander and Andrew Powell. Special thanks to her niece Phoebe Giles and her companions Lakedria Wright, Carolyn Brown, Bobbie Reed and Keyun Wilson. A Memorial Service in Wynne Chapel, Highland Park Presbyterian Church is planned for Friday, October 20th at 1:00 pm with a gathering at her home following the service.
